#BACKYOURSELF
The modelling industry is renowned for being out of control and exclusive. We have all heard the horror stories of girls having to drastically change their appearance in order to be accepted into an agency. However, WINK an Australia based modelling agency are changing these ancient ways to break down barriers between a healthy body image & the modelling industry.
In 2016, WINK Models decided it was time to show the world what they are all about. “We are not just another modelling agency who only accepts a certain type of model. Our models vary in ethnicity, size, age and looks, which is something we hold extremely special.” said Simone marketing assistant from WINK Melbourne.
“We find it so special to see the women on our books encouraging each other when they land a job, and decided it was time to celebrate that.”
WINK Models and LOIS. connected through Instagram after collectively sharing the hash-tag #BackYourself. For LOIS #BackYourself aimed to inspire Australian women to celebrate their wins and successes. The story is much the same for WINK. For them #BackYourself was born to encourage all women (model or non-model) to be their own number 1 fans. “Not only did we see a number of our very own women get involved, we also saw bloggers, mums and young girls getting behind the initiative! And so through the power of social media we had collectively joined” said Simone.
Backing Yourself is a simple concept, however, it’s easier said than done. That’s why we need the encouragement of our fellow ladies to help us realise just how awesome we all are.
There are some dedicated #BackYourself ambassadors who have offered their advice and experiences on how they have learnt (or are learning) how to love themselves in such a demanding industry. Here is what they had to say when asked the question, “If you could spread one message to all women in Australia, what would it be?”
“Be inspired but don’t compare yourself to others.”
“Love yourself unconditionally and don’t be afraid to follow your dreams no matter how big they are!”
“To step out from behind those shadows and to step in front of your own. Shine through that negativity and show the world the true meaning of self confidence.”
Women of all shapes, sizes and races should be celebrated for being different. “We are lucky to have the women that we do on our books that not only encourage others, but themselves to go for what they want” said Simone.
We, LOIS. and WINK want to encourage you all to interact with the #BackYourself campaign. Celebrate yourself and your peers, be your own cheer squad.
“Be authentic by being true to yourself. It’s great to be inspired by the works and words of others but try not to let their words replace your own. By all means pay homage to those that inspire you but stay true to your own vision by simply being yourself.” – Samantha Christian – Editor & Creative Director of LOIS. Magazine
